At Path, we use clipping paths to remove backgrounds, but there are some cases (especially when your subjects involve hair, fur, or fuzzy borders) when we use advanced Photoshop masking, or image masking.

When it comes to clipping paths, we always go with hand-drawn clipping paths for natural-looking lines that make the products look realistic. We’ll use the Pen Tool in Photoshop to remove backgrounds, and make sure to zoom to capture even the smallest details.

Simple background removal

For straightforward shapes with clean edges, pricing typically ranges from $0.39 to $0.69 per image. This usually includes standard product shots like boxes, books, watches, or sunglasses - i.e. objects with basic outlines and minimal fine detail.

Medium complexity

For images with more detail, more challenging outlines, or two main subjects, pricing generally falls between $0.70 and $2.99 per image. Examples include shoes, handbags, cars, or products with overlapping elements that need extra care to isolate cleanly.

Complex background removal

For images with intricate edges, multiple subjects, or lots of fine detail, pricing is usually determined on a case-by-case basis. This can include bicycles, trees, chains, necklaces, or products that require separate clipping paths or more advanced masking work to get every edge right.
